The Air in Texas Has The Scent of Freedom!!!

Today in The Lone Star State, Open Carry has become legal for those of us who have a license to conceal carry.

My views on whether or not one SHOULD open carry vary.  Personally I don't believe that it's a good idea, at least not for me but it's really nice to know that now I can carry OUTSIDE the waistband and not have to wear frumpy clothing to conceal my pistol.

I will admit that I have not been carrying very often for the past couple of years.  Mainly because of the clothing issue, but also, even with Lady (Sig P238) in my flash bang holster, it's not very comfortable to carry in the summer time.*

That being said, today I found my belt, and my Quantum holster from Dragon Leatherworks, reversed the clips so that I can carry OWB and strapped my beloved Alexa (Springfield XDm Compact 9mm) to my hip, put on a jacket an off I went to the store.

What is great about open carry is that I didn't have to worry about the wind blowing open my jacket or if I reached for something in the store my gun showing.  So now I will more diligently carry my best girl even in the summer when I can throw on a light button down shirt over my tank top.

All that being said....    on my way out of the store, sure enough a gust of wind blew open my jacket just as I was passing by a guy going into the store.   His eyes grew big as saucers and then he smiled a HUGE freedom loving smile....    I said to him, "The land of the free!"   His response was simply..... "Amen!"

Range day will be on Tuesdays after my piano lessons I think.  I am feeling good today and ready to get back to my old shootygoodness self.

Happy New Year everyone!

Belle.

*  Most women know that even wearing a bra in the summer time makes you sweat under the boobage, I found adding a pistol to that does NOT help.  Just sayin.

Yes I still qualify

Even though the State of Texas doesn't require a shooting qualification for renewals of our CHL...   when put to the test... I still qualify with a score of 100%.....  I am a happy pistol packing mama.  Now I get to renew with confidence that I can still hit what I'm aiming for at various distances....

Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

She's A Lady

Meet Lady...  the newest edition to the Belle's harem of lovelies...     she's a Sig Sauer P238 and I am just loving her.

My early Christmas present and I couldn't be happier.   I decided this summer that I really needed a small, summer carry pistol that is easier to conceal in shorts and tank tops.

She fires very smooth and I love the trigger on this sweet little thing.

So why did I name her Lady?   Well, from the time I snapped this photo (at the range) and while I was running her first rounds through her, I kept hearing Tom Jones "She's A Lady" in my head.

I am one lucky lady to have a hubby who is willing to buy such marvelous toys for me....     I can't stop smiling.

*Rainbow finish with a feaux wood grip...  she just looks good enough to eat!!!

Merry Christmas to me.....  quite early!!

Range date and my next love...

Last week, KX and I went to the gun range and this sweet little lady caught my eye....

A Sig Sauer P238 with pink pearl grips....    sighs..

Normally I detest pink on a firearm, but this little baby is just fine looking.

I have grown very lax about carrying, in the summer.  My Springfield is just too bulky for summer clothing so I've been debating on alternatives.

That little beauty will do just fine.

Today we went to the range and I was able to fire one that they had for rental (didn't get charged the rental fee).  I have to say that I was very accurate with it.

The trigger is very nice on it and the action was very smooth and well...  all around I just loved it.

The size is perfect for summer concealment and I don't even mind the pink pearl grips!

Only sad thing is that I will have to wait until at least November to get it.. but it's all good.. that's not too far away.

Until then.. she can just pine away for me and I for her.....    sighs....................

Range Date

Belle and I resurrected a BAR tradition that used to occur weekly before the great ammo shortage of '13.  A nice Tex-mex lunch at Elisia's and a jaunt to the shooting range.
We looked like we were going to war when we left the house.
Plan "A" was the rifle range to break in the "new to us" Mosin Nagants.
In the event that the rifle range was over-run by deer hunters sighting in for the upcoming deer season, plan B was to head to our indoor pistol range.  So we both had rifles, multiple pistols and  heavily ladened range bags.

Plan A worked out.  Yay! both the Mosins go Bang!  The iron sights are off quite a bit.  The bolts got a little sticky from time to time, but not bad.  I had shortened the springs on both of them. I did a little polishing on the bolt cam surfaces on one of them. The polished bolt did in fact work a bit better.
So I'll be polishing the unpolished bolt, and polishing the other some more.

The recoil pads, while not exactly cushy were worth the 15 bucks. The curved shape provided to the butt by the pads did help to mitigate the mule kick.
On each side of us at the range was a Dad with an 8 to 12 year old daughter. One with a .22LR, the other with a .223.  Heart warming. :-)

Happiness is a warm Mosin.

Note the stylish pink earmuffs.
What you can't see is the devilish grin on her face.

New Lady Shooter - Maura Welcome!

I have been kind of slacking on my blog posting and reading lately.  Just kind of taking a little break from it.

Maura sometimes contributes to North's blog and she is new to shooting and had been literally afraid of guns in the past.  You can go here to read all about it.

I am so happy to see yet another woman take it upon herself to learn how to shoot and especially one who had a fear to over come.

Maura, hats off to you my friend.  I couldn't be more thrilled.  Now a whole new world of confidence and liberation (in a good way) will open up to you.
