Guns Welcome Sign increases business!!

Bluegrass Bruce  posted up an interesting little story on his blog.  He sent an email to me and pointed it out to me.  Bruce, thank you for reading our blog and welcome to the blogroll!!!

You can find the story here .

On a side note, a bank in Chappel Hill, Texas had been robbed several times within a month or two and they posted a similar sign.  Interestingly enough, the robberies stopped.

Amazing what happens when you allow encourage law abiding citizens to exercise their right to self defense by keeping and bearing arms, in your establishment.  You increase traffic and suddenly your place of business becomes a much safer place.

Also, I can recall back in the 90's car jackings in the Houston area were on the rise.  It seemed that every night on the news there was at least one in town that was reported.  Often the owner of the car was at a stop light and pulled from their car and either killed if they resisted or left standing there while the perp drove off.

Once the concealed carry law went into effect and people were getting their licenses to carry....  well, car jackings decreased significantly.

Again, when you allow encourage people to exercise their right to self defense, violent crime tends to decrease and your neighborhood is a much safer place.

Kudos to Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and my own Senator Ted Cruz

I have got to give a resounding round of applause to Rand Paul for his nearly 13 hour talking filibuster on the Senate floor.

Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee joined in the efforts as well.

Apparently, the rules regarding a talking filibuster allow for other Senators to ask questions, but it's not specific in the manner in which the questions are asked.  Each Senator took the opportunity to speak at length while throwing in a question or two during their monologues.

Unfortunately, mother nature called on Sen. Paul and he had to end his filibuster.  He said, "“I would go for another 12 hours to try to break Strom Thurmond’s record, but I’ve discovered that there are some limits to filibustering and I’m going to have to go take care of one of those in a few minutes here.”

Ted Cruz took the floor and read a letter from the Alamo, noting that Paul's filibuster comes on the 177th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo and how he, like those Texans defending the Alamo is standing on principle against tyranny and defending freedom.

Rand Paul is a man of principle and while he may not have won the battle against the appointment of John Brennan, he certainly won the argument.

Thank you Senator Paul for speaking out and turning our attention to the issue at hand, which is of course, whether or not the US Govt is authorized to use drones to kill American citizens on US soil.

Oh How Times Change

Diplomatic trips to Berlin have been going on since the beginning of the Cold War.

I happened to be listening to Rush Limbaugh today and so I'm stealing his brain power in this oh so true comparison.

John F. Kennedy at the Berlin Wall

Then we have the eloquent Ronald Reagan with his classic challenge:

And now enter John Kerry and his little tidbit of brilliance (snark)

Do you think he was referring to his dumb ass?

Geez......   I never thought I would say this, but can we have Hillary back, please?

Anniversaries............

As well all know, today is Pearl Harbor Day.

December 7th 1941 the Empire of Japan awakened a sleeping giant and quickly learned that as a Nation, though at times we are divided within, we always will come together to beat back a common enemy.

Those were the days of the Greatest Generation.  People didn't think twice about sacrificing and rationing for the war.  They were asked to do it, and they did.  They banded together and old, young, male or female, everyone worked together.

Survivors of the Great Depression, their generation had gumption.  I was fortunate enough to have been the grandchild of 4 such people.  Survivors...    my grandparents all had grit and knew what it was like to struggle.

After 911, we as a country were able to pull together and rise to preserve our freedom, our way of life.  The difference is...  it didn't last long.  Soon after, when the next election rolled around, the country became divided once again.....   Now, we have a group in Washington that want nothing more than to bring down our way of lives.  To take away as much of our freedom as they can get away with.  They want us disarmed.  They want us to be subjects not citizens.

All I have to say to them is 'screw you!'  I will NOT just bend over and take it simply because you think you know what is best for me.  I will NOT allow you to destroy that in which my grandparents sacrificed and fought to preserve.  I a law abiding citizen will NOT be disarmed simply because some scumbag, in some city, some where might use a firearm for evil.  I will NOT allow my country to succumb to complete control over our lives, I will NOT allow my rights to be taken away when there are men and women out there who fight so hard to defend those very rights, families who continue to sacrifice every single day to preserve that freedom.

So today, remember Pearl Harbor and if you see a veteran, shake their hand and thank them for their sacrifice to preserve our way of life.  I do that frequently no matter what day it is, but I know that they always appreciate hearing that simple 'thank you'.

On a second note....   On this day, 14 years ago, Kx and I got married.  Today is our wedding anniversary so to my darling other half, thank you for all the years.

I may have mentioned this before, but the Justice of the Peace who married us said, "This isn't the first war that's started on this day!"

I guess sometimes, like any marriage, it's been like war.  You make sacrifices, you fight, you struggle, but all in all, I think that we have done pretty okay.

I love you my husband, happy anniversary!

An Answer to a Mud Hut

Last night my other half posted up some snark that I have to somewhat respond to.  I can only hope that war doesn't commence in the BAR homestead once he reads this.....

Borepatch commented that Mitt couldn't motivate the Republicans to get out and vote and I couldn't agree more.

Here's the problem as I see it.

People voted for John McCain because after 8 years of Bush, the last thing that they wanted was an Obama Whitehouse, unchecked with a super majority in both the House and Senate.  Also, as much as I can't stand McCain at the very least, you can say that the guy does love his country.  He loved it enough to endure and perservere through evils that even I, with my twisted imagination, can't conceive.

Back then, Obama was the evil that we didn't know.  It was much easier for people to get out of their houses and go vote against him because at the very least, they knew that McCain (I voted for Bob Barr by the way), while not perfect, would at the very least, not trample over our basic rights that he faught to preserve, and  with a Democratic Congress, wouldn't have been able to do much damage anyway.

So let's fast forward to Mittens.

Mitt was now the evil that the country didn't know.  The problem is, that the Republican establishment had Mitt chosen before the primary even started.  Pundits such as Coulter, Limbaugh, and Hannity were all about Mitt.

We had good candidates (Herman Cain for one) and yet the press went on the attack.  These women started coming forward to make accusations, which as far as I know remain unsubstaniated to this day.  The radio talk show hosts and conservative columnists went on the attack and ruined these people to the point where the only real choice that was left.... .Mitt.

The problem with Mitt is that he was too afraid to call it like it really is and be too critical of the opposition.  He couldn't excite Republican voters because he tried to come off as too moderate.

Yes.... too moderate.

There was little difference between Mittens and Obama and without a clear, concise contrast between candidates, many folks will just figure, "meh... I'll go with the evil that I do know."

What we needed was someone who would ensure that the people knew that they wouldn't be getting more of the same, that if elected, clear conservative principles would be in the White House.  The country is in trouble.... the country is bankrupt and quite frankly, we're divided between those who love and those who dispise our country and what it stands for.

Imagine if Mittens had tapped into that national pride that Ronald Reagan did, or that Marco Rubio does.  Imagine if Mittens had simply said, "Yes, our nation isn't perfect, but it's a heck of a lot better than any other place on this planet.  Our beloved country IS that shining city on the hill, though not as bright at the moment, we, as a people, can pull together and heal her."

Imagine if Mittens had reminded the population that each and every one of us has an inalienable right to self defense.  Imagine if Mittens had said, "I believe that every human being has a right to defend his own life using any tool available to him to do so, including but not limited to firearms."  rather than what he DID say which was something to the tune of, "I like guns... I hunt."

Imagine if Mittens had been more engaged in his campaign, imagine if he would have ruthlessly pointed out why Obama is a danger to our country, to our liberty, to our prosperity.  Instead, his handlers ran a campaign with kid gloves as to not offend.

The problem with this election is NOT the voters that didn't show up.  The problem is with the establishment who continuously shoves these neo-cons down our throats in an effort to woo the votes of people who aren't voting Republican and never will vote Republican anyway.

So my beloved other half, you can be mad at the voters all you want.  The problem isn't with them, it's with the party.  This election was Obama's to lose, the problem is that the Party pushed the worst possible candidate on us and now we will all pay the price.

As far as voting your conscience.  Well, I reject the notion that we should all fall in line because we don't want the other guy to win.  In fact, I feel much better voting for someone, than simply voting against someone.  After voting for Mitt, I felt dirty because instead of voting FOR Mitt...   I voted AGAINST Obama.  It left a bad taste in my mouth and that's something that I won't let happen again.

We will survive these next four years.  I have faith in that.  Hopefully by then, we will have learned a lesson.

Don't Know Whether To Laugh or Cry

So tomorrow, we're having a little party at the office to watch the election results.

We're all hoping at the office that we get a new President, which might be slightly better than what we have but still.. I don't know whether I want to celebrate if Romney wins or think "oh shit".

It's really a catch 22 with me.

I mean.. on one hand we have an anti-gun socialist liberal in office....    but it appears that we could replace him with what???   Another anti-gun slightly less socialist liberal?

It's looking kind of glib folks, I am not exactly happy.

It still angers me......

Yes, I'm still royally pissed off about 9/11.

That day was surreal to me, and I will never forget where I was when I heard about it. I was at home, watching GMA and saw the whole thing unfold, live.

I will never, ever forget, nor will I forgive.

I hope those bastards end up with 72 male computer geek virgins......    fuckers.

After all, there's nothing in the Quran that says what KIND of virgins they will get in paradise.

fuck'em......

What pisses me off even more is how the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have been handled and how it's been politicized.

Whether or not you believe that we should have gone there in the first place is irrelevent.  Once we put our men and women in harm's way, by God they need to be allowed to do their job and fight to win.

Instead, they are constantly reigned in and sometimes demonized when something goes wrong.  Let those who have sworn to serve and protect DO THEIR JOB because they are the best in the world.

Never ever send them to fight a war that you have no intention of winning.  You send them?  Make damn sure that you allow them to fight and accept nothing less than unconditional surrender.  You cannot fight a war while tieing the hands of our troops and making them wear kid gloves... we should have learned that in Vietnam.

Once again to those of you who are serving, or who have served....  I can't thank you enough for what you do.  God Bless.

More Commentary on Wolves, Sheep and Sheepdogs....

Yesterday I posted up a link to an article on another blog that I found to be highly insightful and not to mention very well written.

The author was correct in that we all fall, in some way or another, into one of those three categories.

For most of my life, I think that while I had a bit of sheepdog in me, I was always really a sheep.  I went through my daily routine, never really considering that some day, it could be me on the news.  It could be me who was robbed at gunpoint, or randomly assaulted or kidnapped or car jacked...

No, I was quite happy in my own little carefree world.  Quite frankly, it wasn't necessarily that I was in denial that these things didn't really happen, I just never really thought it would start happening so close to home.

I lived in a quiet little suburb where nothing really bad ever happened.  We didn't have drive by shootings, no one was ever kidnapped or robbed.  Sure there was crime, but really for the most part, you just didn't worry about walking down the street late at night.

So, yes I was a sheep, never really worrying about anything because, after all..    it wouldn't happen to me... not in my neighborhood.

The article about Wolves, Sheep and Sheepdogs, referred to the Sheepdogs mainly as our Military, Police and other emergency responders; however, I don't believe that's all the author meant.  I believe that he also meant the average private citizen who decides to take responsiblity for his or her own self defense and the defense of others in his immediate care and/or surroundings.  He was referring to the average person who will not be victimized and who will not allow a bully with a gun (or some other inanimate object) victimize those around him.  The average person who is willing to fight but also, the average person who knows when it's time to just be a good witness.

So all of that said, when exactly was it that I decided to pull my snout out of the grass and stop saying "Baa" and become a sheepdog?

My answer is really not that simple.  I have slowly gotten here.  Step by step I have morphed from a mere sheep to a woman who will stand and defend herself and those around her, as long as she can do it without putting innocent people in harm's way.

I know that finding my way to the gun blogging community has really opened my eyes about self defense and firearms in general.  Oh I've never been afraid of guns, in fact, I've always liked to shoot, but I just never dreamed that I would ever carry one for self defense. I never dreamed that I would feel that I needed to carry.

So what exactly is it that changed?  My surroundings most certainly changed.  My quiet little suburb has now grown up and the crime has come with the growth.  Also, I think that I am just more aware.  Over the years, I've become more aware of issues that we face today.  I've become more aware of how life often turns on a dime and I've learned that despite the efforts of those who are sworn to serve and protect; by the time they arrive on the scene, it's an investigation rather than trying to stop the crime that took place.

So yes, there are wolves out there who are waiting to prey upon the sheep.  This fact of life I've known since I was a young teenager.  What I never dreamed is that there would come a day that the wolves would move into my neighborhood, and the sheep would either not notice, not care, or simply deny the fact that a wolf is a wolf and the type of tool he is using is immaterial.  The wolf will always be a wolf and an inanimate object neither changes, nor does it make that fact more true.

So what I do is look, listen and most of all, I learn.  I decided that I would not deny the facts of life, nor would I just sit and wait for something bad to happen.  I practice, I train, I take classes when they are available to me so that should the need arrive where I need to be that sheepdog, I can do so skillfully and safely.

On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs.. Must Read Article

I came across this on the Guns Over Texas Radio Blog.  It's a fascinating and not to mention an incredibly well written, insightful article by David Grossman.

Go give it a look-see and I will try and post something else up on the topic a little later, if I can.

Rights

I'm sitting here listening to the radio and Lee Greenwood, Proud to be an American is playing.

Granted, this is a wonderful song and I agree with the meaning behind the song, but there is one bit of that song that just really irks me.  In fact, it irks me so bad that I feel like I could rip someone's face off.....

The line?

I won't forget the men who died, who GAVE that right to me.

That line would be better off saying, "I won't forget the men who died, who DEFEND that right for me."

As all my BAR readers well know, I absolutely love our military and I absolutely love that our founders fought to defend our liberty and created a nation based on life, liberty and the persuit of happiness.

The problem that I have is that our Founders did not 'grant us' or 'give us' our right to live as free individuals.  They merely established a government that is supposed to be limited and that is supposed to protect we the people's  God given right to live as free individuals.

The moment that you believe that any right can be given to you by man (or government) then it is no longer a right, but a privelege.

A right is something that exists regardless of whether or not it is acknowledged by another individual or a government or other entity.

So while Lee Greenwood's song is heartwarming in a feel good kind of way, I think that he uses a poor choice of wording in the chorus.

/end rant

Oh the contrast............

I have been saying for some time now what this country needs is another Ronald Reagan.  I am posting up his farewell address to the Nation and notice the contrast between him and the man that we have in the White House now.

When Reagan, close to 4 minutes in, starts talking about job creation, the word "I" does not pass his lips, it gives the credit to where it belongs....  the people.

When he speaks about things that got done through Congress, he doesn't say "I", he gives the credit to the voters who made phone calls, who demanded that Congress take action.

Yes we need another one like him.

I miss him.

Can someone say, Marco Rubio?

Hopefully he will be on the Repulican ticket.... or run the next Presidential election.

Oh Let Them Eat Cake!

The attitude of this administration drives me bananas!

Apparently, Michelle Obama is going to, yet again, steal a jet to go on vacation ahead of her husband, while she tells people that their kids can play with twigs and recycled wrapping paper and glitter if they can't afford toys for them for Christmas.

The attitude and disdain for the American people that these people in the White House express constantly is appalling.

God I can't wait until they are out of there!

TSA Keeping Us Safe............

Geez, this goes beyond nuts.

Apparantly there are three old ladies that have come forward claiming to have been stripped search by the TSA, on of which had her panties pulled down in a private room.  We've heard of the TSA making elderly folks remove their Depends/Adult Diapers, humiliting innocent elderly people just to keep us 'safe'.

I sure am glad to know that they are putting their best foot forward and using their common sense so that we can all be safe.

Good god. Benjamin Franklin once said, "Those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."

What in the hell have we as a country allowed to happen to ourselves where our individual freedoms are so much under assult?

I am almost resigned to never fly if I can help it.  I don't want to be groped, prodded or treated like a criminal so that I can take a trip somewhere.  This is freaking insane.

The world really has gone to hell in a hand basket

Every generation that has reached the curmudgeon stage has said this, I know. Even being the religious gun clinging staunch Democrats that they were, I'm sure my Grandparents cussed FDR and swore the world was coming to an end. But that was just political Armageddon.
They never experienced the kind of Societal dry rot we are experiencing.
I watched a television commercial just a little while ago this evening, in prime time no less, about the new .XXX domain names that can purchased now.  Nice huh? Although, if all the porn sites could be corralled into the .xxx domains, it would make them much easier to block.
Not ten minutes later I run across this:
Penn State Bought Adult Domain Names to Block Usage Prior to Sex Abuse Scandal

Four domain names to be exact. All with the .XXX extension.  This apparently happened back in September.  Circle the Wagons much?

The Safety Net

The safety net is the new term for welfare and other government programs.  Liberals like to change the terminology of things when it suits them.  When the *cough* science begin showing that the planet wasn't really warming up like they were saying, they changed the 'global warming' terminology to 'climate change' so that it's more palitable.

Now, they're focusing on government welfare programs.  You see, those of us who work for a living are demanding cuts in these programs because the country can't afford them.  Now, instead of calling it 'welfare' or 'social programs', they are calling it a safety net.

Michael Berry correctly pointed this out yesterday on his show and he also pointed out that the problem with a safety net is that it ultimately becomes a hammock.

Let's say that you decide to go to the circus and you watch the trapeze artists do their show.  One of them falls and is caught by the safety net.  The idea is that the performer gets up and climbs back up the ladder to finish the show.  What if that person decided to just stay there in the net?  Perhaps it's too much trouble or work to climb back up to the top.  What he's done is turned that net into a hammock.  So then what happens if another one falls, and then another and another but none get up.  Eventually the show comes to a halt.

So apply that to government 'safety nets'.  If you are allowed to stay on unemployment indefinitely or stay on welfare for as long as you want, without having to give anything back to the community, or without having to learn a job skill, what incentive is there to pull yourself out of it?  That government safety net, which is supposed to be there when people find themselves in unmanageable times, now has become a hammock and eventually, if enough people pile into the hammock and not enough people are in the show...  well the show will come to a halt and then we're all up a creek.

I noticed on my blog this morning that the Houston Chronicle has a headline that reads "Safety nets insure more Texas children", a sign that they are trying to drive our view on government programs by changing the terminology.  They do this because they know that thought for thought, their ideology loses on its face.

A snake oil salesman will change his tactics and the words that he uses to sell his worthless garbage because he knows that if he tells the truth he would never sell a thing.  Liberals are no different.  They know that we aren't buying their garbage and so now they have to shift gears.

A Deadly Game of Cat and Mouse

Yesterday afternoon, I watched a documentary on the National Geographic channel about the interrogation of Saddam Hussein.  It was an interesting program and the FBI agent who interrogated Saddam told the story of how he was able to get Saddam to trust him, to even like him.

After Saddam was captured, he was placed in solitary confinement in a prison.  For months, the only human contact that Saddam had was the contact with his interrogator.  The interrogator whose name was George ( I think that was it, I honestly don't remember) spent 7 hours a day with Hussein talking about whatever Saddam wanted to talk about.

Saddam wrote poetry and would sometimes read his poetry to George, or he would just simply talk about the weather.  This went on for months.  After a while, Saddam looked forward to spending time with George and George was careful to appear sympathetic to Saddam's capture and imprisonment.

Eventually, George found an opportunity to extract the information that he was after, which was what did Saddam do with his WMD?  What George learned was that Saddam didn't have the stockpile that the whole world thought he had.  The fact of the matter was that Saddam viewed Iran as his greatest threat and he had to appear to have WMD in order to keep Iran at bay.  He played a game of cat and mouse and ended up losing because of it.

Liberals used to chant, "Bush Lied People Died" but the fact of the matter is, that chant should have been, "Saddam lied people died."  Everyone thought he had WMD because he made us believe it.  He perpetuated a risky hoax so that he could fool Iran and it was working.

After this was revealed in the show, it got me thinking.   If only Saddam would have contacted SOMEONE that he could possibly trust.  SOMEONE who could have helped him keep the UN or the US off his back.  The problem is, there wasn't anyone he could trust.  With Bush in the White House, I'm sure that he wouldn't have felt comfortable calling him up and explaining his situation.   Perhaps, oil for food aside, France Germany and Russia had inside knowledge of Saddam's ploy and that's why they refused to allow the UN to go into Iraq.  Perhaps Bush should have gone along with the UN at that time.  I do believe however, that President Bush acted in a manner that he felt was right, of that I have no doubt.

I know that it sounds like I am feeling sorry for Saddam, but nothing could be further from the truth.  The fact of the matter is, he was thorn in the side of many.  He gassed the Kurds and committed other atrocities against his own people.  He was a brutal dictator, however, sometimes it's better to stay with the dictator that you know rather than upset an entire region by removing him from power.

Under Saddam's reign, there was a stable Iraq that would help (out of self defense, not out of the kindness of his heart) keep Iran in check.  Now that Saddam is out of power, and with US troops about to leave the area, who knows what will come down the pike.  I worry for the state of Isreal and I worry about the innocent lives that will be lost to terrorism.

We are sure to see the same thing happen in Lybia, especially since the rebels have stated that they want to impose Sharia law on the people of Lybia.

So was it all worth it?  Should we have gone into Iraq?  At one time, I thought that yes, we most definitely should have but now, I'm not so sure.  The only thing that I do know is that no matter what the mistakes of our government's foreign policy may be, I always support the troops and truly appreciate the job that they do.

As the show came to an end, George spoke of the close of his assignment and when it was time for him to say goodbye to Saddam.  George had been so good at his job, that Saddam told George that he cared for him as much, if not more, than his own sons.  He thanked him for the time they spent together talking and they smoked Cuban cigars.  When they parted, Saddam hugged George and gave him goodbye kisses in the Arab fashion.. right cheek, left cheek then right again.

At the close of the show, George did say that while Saddam did not have stockpiles of WMD, he knew that without a doubt that Saddam was pursuing the possibility of re instituting his WMD program and would have never stopped in that pursuit.

Saddam played a very deadly game of cat and mouse and he lost, but not only did he lose, so did the entire region, especially if Iran fulfills its desire to rid the middle east of Israel.

Sometimes, it's better to deal with the evil that you know, rather than the unknown.

Deer Season in Texas

Well, it's deer season her in the Lone Star State and considering that I work for a painting contractor, things are a bit slow here in the office today.  All the guys that work here in the office are gone so it's just us ladies.

With a little luck, our boss will let us go home early....    who knows.

On a personal level, I don't know that I could ever shoot a deer unless I knew that was going to be my only chance for meat.  It's not that I'm opposed to people hunting wild game, not at all, in fact I enjoy most venison dishes (as long as it's field dressed and/or bled properly so that it's not so gamey tasting).  I think that it has more to do with seeing those beautiful, soft eyes in a scope and then snuffing out that light for good that bothers me.

Fishing doesn't bother me, though I do admit that if the fish are still alive when hubby filets them, it's hard for me to eat that fish in the same night.  Now, instead of using a stringer, we put the fish in a garbage bag and put them on ice so that they're dead when they're being fileted.  I know, suffocation isn't a pleasant way to die, but the brain of a fish is so small that with every breath it struggles to breathe it thinks it's his first...  you know, short memories and all.

I think that the main source of my tender heartedness when it comes to killing animals has somewhat to do with the personficiation of animals that have been prevolent on the big screen.

I've seen just about every Disney cartoon and movie there is.  When you grow up with Bambi talking and his mother being gunned down by 'evil hunters' and little Thumper icescating on his large bunny feet, Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey and Lewis and Mickey and Mini Mouse, then there's Nemo, Dorie, and Flounder (the little Mermaid) and of course let us not forget Simba, Nala, Timone and Pumba, it makes it really hard to not see other animals as having the capacity of emotions like humans.

Studies have shown that animals that we consider food do mourn their lost mates, parents or offspring.  Some of them show great intelligence.  I think that my reservations for killing animals by my own hand depend on the complexity of the animal itself.  In my mind I have an easier time killing a fish, than I would a duck turkey or chicken, easier time killing fowl than I would a squirrel, an easier time killing a squirrel than I would a rabbit...  easier time killing a rabbit than I would a cow, cow is easier than deer.  Pigs or hogs, while they're intelligent killing and eating them just doesn't really bother me at all really.  They're nasty and destructive (wild hogs) and not to mention mean as hell.  In fact, I could kill one of those before a I could a squirrel.

There are types of mammal that I could absolutely not kill and eat....  monkeys and sea mammals.  To me, monkeys are too close to a human being, so close that it would almost be cannabalistic.  Sea mammals have such complex brains and are so intelligent that I could never kill and eat one.  I have see dolphins up close and their eyes show a deep intelligence that can be a little unnerving.

Something else that I couldn't kill and eat...    a dog or a cat... well at least my dog or my cat...  as a rule, I would do my best to find something else to eat other than any dog or cat.  I would only resort to that if I were literally starving to death.

So while all the hunters in and around Texas are going to be sitting in their stands, freezing and peeing in a coffee can, waiting for that 8 point buck to appear at the feeder (unfair IMO) so that they can gun it down, I am going to be on the golf course tomorrow with some tastey brew and barbecue in the afternoon, enjoying life.

**  Okay, so what I find unfair above is setting up a feeder and luring the deer to a spot of an easy kill.  While it's not illegal and it's no different than chumming the waters to attract fish, I just don't think that it's very sporting.  This of course is just my opinion and if someone were hunting because they can't afford to buy meat from the store and they rely on it for sustinance thoughout the year, I have no problem with deer feeders.  However, since the majority of hunters do it for the sport of it (the meat is of course a bonus), then I think that they should enjoy that sport to its fullest and track their prey, rather than lure it.

How stupid can they be?

Okay, so the OWS buffoons have shut down the Port of Oakland in protest. Their stated goal? "Stop the flow of capital." Alright then!

I think that the line of the day was here:

"There are so many students that are trying to get jobs and go on with their lives," said Sarvenaz Asasy of Boston, who joined the march after recently graduating with a master's degree and $60,000 in loan debt. "They've educated themselves and there are no jobs and we're paying tons of student loans. For what?"

So let me be sure that I'm understanding this bozo because after all, my idiot-speak is very limited...   these students are wanting to get jobs after having educated themselves yet they want to stop the flow of capital?

Just how, pray tell do they expect to get a job without there being a flow of capital?  Do they think that the job fairey will wave his magic wand and just pull jobs out of thin air?  Well of course, according to Obama, that's exactly what his 'jobs bill' will do..........   good grief... this crap is just getting more and more scarey.

Things are not going to get much better any time soon, I fear.  I really need to learn how to reload ammo.

Whale Wars

I watch the show from time to time. Mostly to watch the ecotards screw up. I agree with them on one count. I think that in this day and age, whaling is pointless and destructive. The point I'm getting to though, is I can't believe that the stuff they do to disrupt the whaling ships isn't considered terrorism or piracy. It seems to me that the whalers would be within their rights to fire upon these idiots. I'm surprised they haven't yet. They did run over the fancy greenpease trimaran last year. These folks only have one oar in the water.

Stop Helping!

Really, we'd be better off if Obama and the Democrats would all just go play golf until Nov. 2012.
Obama has a new plan! God help us.

from Foxsnews.com
"President Obama, in what he described as an "all-hands-on-deck strategy" to boost the economy, announced a new program Monday aimed at training 10,000 new American engineers every year"
Yet again, obama proves he knows nothing with respect to job creation. Where are said 10,000 engineers a year going to find a job? I guess he figures if a bunch of wet behind the ears engineering graduates get together, by golly, they'll just figure out how to jump start this economy. (well, that's how it's worked in his administration hasn't it, oh wait, most of his academic economic advisers have bailed on him)

"The president also announced what he called the "better buildings initiative," a push to upgrade buildings for energy efficiency that would be co-led by former President Bill Clinton. He claimed the upgrades, while putting contractors to work, could in the long run save companies $40 billion a year -- money that could be put to use hiring new workers.

"It is a win-win-win-win proposition," Obama said."

Oy, where to begin with this. This better building initiative is so far behind the curve it is unbelievable. The U.S. Green Building Council, founded in 1993, which developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system for buildings, has become the defacto standard for green building design. And, imagine this, this is not a Federal Agency. Nonetheless, the concept took hold in the building industry and the free market nurtured its growth by competition.

Most developers of large scale projects were already requiring the kind of energy efficient design promoted by the LEED rating system. The LEED rating system gave developers a 3rd party certification system from which they could market the efficiency of their buildings. The savings in operating costs go directly to their bottom line.

Taking all the steps to get a building LEED certified adds to the initial cost of a new building. Doing the retrofit to an existing building is even more expensive. In the current economy, I'm not seeing existing building owners clammoring to spend a bunch of money to get their building LEED certified. I'm squinting really hard here, but not seeing any jobs so far.

Obama's quote should read : "It is a win-win-win-win fail-fail-fail proposition," Obama said." There, fixed it for ya.
"In an opinion piece published Monday in The Wall Street Journal, Immelt and American Express CEO and chairman Ken Chennault laid out a series of jobs council ideas to increase employment, including easing visa applications to attract more tourists and the plan to increase energy efficiency in commercial buildings."
Want to bet whether that easing of visa applications "to attract more tourists" includes work visas". What are the odds that those mythical engineering jobs might go to foreign engineers?
Of course, Immelt, being the CEO of General Electric is all over this initiative. The initiative, by itself, will do zip for job creation. If coded into federal law, when the economy does eventually pick up and the building industry recovers, this will be a boon to GE. GE is vested heavily in the the whole global warming, er climate change boondoggle.
Still squinting. No jobs in sight yet.
