Bill Nye, the sciencey guy, so voraciously vocal about global worming, lo these many years is on Dancing with the Stars.
I remember watching his short spots on TV with my brood when they were young. Somewhere along the line, Bill Nye the Science Guy episodes got cut.
I suspect Bill never got over those fleeting moments in the limelight. Not finding actual sciencey stuff actually interesting, or lucrative, or providing the rush of stardom, Bill hitched his wagon to the global worming hoax.
Now that it appears we are headed into another small ice age, Nye has jumped ship.
Nye is a competitor on Dancing with the Stars.*
I have to give him credit, his dance routine to "Weird Science" was not bad, if not apropos.
On the other side of the "Life as Reality" approach, Bill Engvall just absolutely tore up the Fox Trot.
Yes, I'm watching Dancing with the Stars. I'm watching for no other reason than the Lovely Belle wants to.
*Star is perhaps not the correct label for Nye. Opportunist, yes.

The higher you rise, the further you can fall
Brings to mind Icarus from Greek mythology (hey, I'm a highly educated, and licensed redneck... by the State of Texas no less).
Randy Travis' life has apparently turned to shit, so he decided to get drunk and get neckid and now he's in the news. ( and jail)
For my non-Southern readers: If you are naked, you are disrobed. If you are neckid, you are disrobed and up to something.
It appears Randy was so neckid that he either; a) got into an altercation with the PoPo, or; b) fell down of his own accord and face planted on the asphalt.
Getting your name out there appears to have become a life threatening undertaking for aging Country Music Stars these days. I mean really. What you have to do to get higher up the list on Drudge than Lady Gaga.
All of that blather aside, I'd like to dedicate this to my lovely, and well armed wife, The Southern Belle.

Awesome! Doh!
Close bud, Billy Joe Flowers called me today. He's bach'ing it this weekend and wants to go shooting tomorrow. Haven't seen him in quite a while.
Belle called, on her way to go throw pointy things at drunks and "could you put the stroller together for me for the baby shower tomorrow, pretty please?"
The Universe remains balanced.

Time for the Bluebonnet Run
No, not that kind of run. Look, if you see me running, you'd better turn and run in the same direction I'm headed because it means something mean and nasty is chasing me.
Wild Flowers are in bloom.
We're rather fond of Bluebonnets, being the state flower and all that.

So Belle and I decided to take a short loop through the hills this morning.
Up to Navasota, hooked a left on 105 and turned down CR1155 towards Chapel Hill. This route on the suggestion of a friend of hers.
1155 is a really nice winding two lane road, not too many wide vistas though. Weekend warrior bikers like it a lot. We saw more motorcycles than cars. Then we ran into a massive herd of one man power cycles. Seems the "Head for the Hills" cycle event was today.
The pic at left is the first leg along 290. Blue sky is a nice break from all the rain we've had lately.
20 miles or so of the 1155 leg involved me focusing on not bumping one of the endless stream of bicyclists off into the rough. (makes my knees hurt to watch that slow uphill grind)
Belle got a few shots along 1155. Bluebonnets.

The better views came later, on 290 again just east of Chapel Hill.
Star of the show:

The grass got jealous and demanded a pic. (how'd that get in there?)

We ended the short trip with a Stuffed Avocado, Tacos Al Carbon, Margaritas and Cerveza at Gringos. Belle was very happy all along the way. The spring wild flower bloom just seems to put a sparkle in her eye. The drive, the verdant green vistas and the wild flowers were really nice but they pale in comparison to having your wife tell you multiple times how happy she is.
When Belle is happy....kx59 is happy.

Head bobs and eye twitches
Belle headed off earlier today to take the youngest girl child's license plates for the JY Saturn to her.
Scooter, the oldest granddaughter was in tow. They did the lunch thing at the local chain Mongolian cuisine restaurant, and went to see "The Lion King" in 3D.
I had the day to myself. It was nice. I combed the gravel in the Japanese Garden in the back, lovingly clipped the bonsai, and meditated some. (also known as playing xbox all day long)
What? I've seen Lion King eleventy million times. I have four kids, and a VCR that we don't use anymore.
Before Belle arrived home, I was blogging and marginally watching "Megamind".
This came on in the sound track and my head began bob.
Belle arrived home, and I'm still blogging and this comes on in the sound track.
head bobs:
Megamind ends, and Belle grabs the remote..oh look! Sleepless in Seattle
eye twitch

Life goes on
Except for the financial part of rearing childrens, we are empty nesters. Just the two of us. No kitchen slaves on which to foist character building anymore.
Whilst I was reading, Belle sighed and said, "well I guess I need to go do the dishes.
Moments ago she walked upstairs to watch HBO, for which the only reason to subscribe is "True Blood".
Shortly before posting, I made the mistake of walking into the kitchen and had my "Fish Named Wanda" moment. Wait..what was that middle part again?
Hey...I cooked tonight!??!
oh...yeah....
