Give a warm welcome to Alexa

Yes, Alexa is what I've named my new addition.  The name means 'protector of mankind'.  I think that it's fitting.

She's a beautiful Springfiled XDM Compact 3.8, 9mm.

I chose to stick with the 9mm because it is what I've been shooting mostly these past months and thanks to all the good, sound advice I received today I decided that was the route I wanted to take.

I bought her from the pawn shop that Kx and I went to with TBG when he was in town.  They're really nice folks out there in Tomball and my purchase was easy and no hassle, they even had ammo.  The gun is brand new, as they are a gun dealer as well as a pawn shop.  The guy that sold the gun to me even showed me how to field strip it and clean it and showed me where to oil it.  I was really surprised at how easy it is!

After making my purchase, I stopped off at the house and picked up my range bag and took her out for a test drive.  All I can say is that I am very pleased with my purchase and I can't thank my hubby enough for giving me the green light to go ahead and get my gun............    life is good, for now.

Without further ado, here is my new baby (I hope that Natasha doesn't get jealous, though she is at the gunsmith getting some work done at the moment)

What I really like about this pistol is that the magazine serves as an extension on the grip, but you can also use the shorter magazine for a more compact pistol.

She came with a holster, a magazine holster a speed loader and some other little odds and ends as well.  Next purchase on the agenda is a couple of extra magazines a cleaning kit and a bore snake.

Next comes the additional classes and practice, practice, practice.  In the mean time, I'm so tickled I'm about to just bust!

Now, I'm off to go and get cleaned up and go throw pointy things!

May you have many happy hours of Recoil Therapy with her, and I hope she serves you well should you ever find yourself in a position of need.

  3. Painfully jealous!

Here in MD you've got to file forms in triplicate and then bury them in the dirt for 3 months in a mayonnaise jar before they'll even consider giving you a gun.

Well, that might be an exaggeration.

Congrats on your new gun! I'm so glad you like her.

  4. Woohoo! And I would suggest getting a "real" holster of some sort, the ones that come with are fine for range stuff, but a little chinci for EDC, at least in my opinion. And keep in mind that a nice custom holster costs little more than one from the store (will only make that mistake once...)

    The clan increases!

  6. Awesome and Congratulations!!

When your ready for leather let us know. There are some great products out there. From mass produced to fully customized. Currently I am jonesing to get some work done by Dennis over at Dragon Leather Works.

Avoid nylon. It looks good on legs not guns. Leave the Nylon at home for KX to enjoy.

  8. Holsters. They are a personal preference.
Personally I use a custom leather/kydex rig that is a cross between a crossbreed and a comptac. Both companies make excellent IWB holsters.
If you want all leather there are several good IWB's. Haven't done IWB with all kydex but a buddy loves his all kydex Comptac with his Glock.
As far as OWB outside waist band it seems that everyone that has one of Dennis' pieces loves them. Like I said I want on. His site is http://www.dragonleatherworks.com I really want the Talon for my 1911.
Other than those things am not sure. I can definitely give no advice on how to fit a lady. What fits me comfortably may feel awful to you. It is about curves and angles.

Besides a Holster a good stiff belt. If you put it on a dress belt the belt will bend and it will flop all over the place. I have on from Tucker Gun Leather double layers bull hide with a velcro lining the other is a comptac with a kydex core and velcro lining.

As far as fasion. It is out the window for the ones I have unless you put the serving tray on the front. The are 1.5" wide.

Not sure what kind of fashionable options there are. Brigid, Breda, and the Cornered Cat may be people who can give good solid advice on what has worked for them as they may have encountered similar issues as you will.

I'm sure any one of the has more fashion sense in the trigger finger than I have in my whole body. My wife gave me hell last week because I have 4 pair of the same Columbia khaki shorts but none in any other color.
