Only a Jackass would turn something awful into a political comment

Okay, so I'm a jackass......

Crazy person shoots congresswoman in the head and kills and injures multiple others.  How long do you think it will take for our wonderful new congress to propose and maybe pass more gun legislation?

I don't mean to sound insensitive because this was indeed a tragedy.  I just know how our government works.  They use tragedy to push an agenda (Brady Bill, Patriot Act), an agenda that compromises our privacy and violates our right to protect ourselves.

When will they learn that gun legislation only takes guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens?  When will they learn that our Founding Fathers had a healthy mistrust of government and that the second amendment is not to just protect ourselves from one another, but they knew that a well armed citizenry will keep a government in check?

I can't remember who said this, I am thinking that it was Franklin or Jefferson but the quote goes, "When people fear the government there is tyranny, when government fears the people, there is liberty."

Let's not allow our congress to continue to take guns out of the hands of the people.  We need to remember that sometimes bad things happen and there is nothing that government can do to prevent that.
