Back in the Saddle Again

Well, as I've posted in the past, I do enjoy shooting targets, whether it's throwing a dart or aiming a gun.  The fact of the matter is, it has been about 15 years since I've fired a gun.

For whatever reason, I have decided that now that the kids are grown and out of the house that I would like to start shooting.  As previously posted, I took a couple of our guns to the gunsmith for a good cleaning and some repairs.  While I was at the gun store, I looked at some pistols, fell in love with a Smith & Wesson 1911, but there were several others that I liked as well.

So, without further ado, I have chosen a safe route.  I have signed up for a beginners class at a shooting range that will provide a rental included in the price of the class.  The class is March 28th and I can't wait.

I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.  I do know that I will continue taking classes, even after I decide which gun I want to buy.

  1. Yay!

And the Smith 1911 is pretty sweet.

  2. Good! It sounds like you are making a planned approach to getting back to shooting.

It is hard to resist the draw of the range.

  3. Good for you!

And very good for you in getting an instructor to teach and refresh you on the nuances of handling a handgun.

Two things a husband/father should never teach his wife/daughter:

    1. How to drive.

    2. How to shoot.

Keep us informed on how the learning and shooting goes.

I get down to Houston from time to time--we have a large Grace Flight hub down there at Houston Hobby Airport and we take a number of patients to MD Anderson. Next time I know I'm going to be flying a patient down, I'd be happy to go shooting with you and your husband.

    Regards.

  4. Oh that would be great! By then my SVT-40 will be out of the shop, will bring that along. Actually, there's a nice outdoor range close to where we live so rifles, etc. are good for shooting out there.
